August 23 & 24, 2017.
New Faculty Orientation is a two-day event held on August 23rd and 24th 2017. Combining staff from the Provost’s Office, Human Resources, and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, we have designed the two days to provide you with a broad overview of resources, both scholastic and logistic, to set you on the path to success.
Day one puts you in contact with the key people involved in developing the thriving teaching and research environment here at UConn. From the Provost, the Academics Deans, the University Senate to the Offices of Diversity and Inclusion and Institutional Equity, key members will put you in touch with the resources you need for a smooth and successful transition to UConn. The first day concludes with an open fair involving many of UConn’s logistical units (Parking, NetID, UConn email, Husky One Card, Benefits, AAUP, etc.) that can help you get started.
Day two is led by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and focuses on answering the question of “What do today’s UConn students look like?” From world-class researchers and teachers here at UConn, both tenure- and non-tenure track faculty, to leaders in the field from Counseling and Mental Health Services, the Center for Students with Disabilities, and Student Affairs, we begin to unpack this vital and complex question in order to set you up for success in the classroom. Furthermore, we offer small-group sessions to introduce you to all of the high-tech multimedia available in the classroom and how to operate the podium.
We hope that you will join us for what will be a wonderful two days of presentations, panels, interactive sessions, and breakout sessions designed to transition you to your new role here at UConn.
