Early Career
Later in August, CETL will announce an Early Career series designed to support pre-tenure faculty and CIRE faculty as they work on professional development. The series will consist of sessions that participants can select based on their individual career paths and interests. For instance, some sessions will focus on teaching principles or navigating well-being issues; other sessions will be geared towards the needs of research faculty or clinical and extension faculty.
All UConn faculty and graduate students are also granted free basic memberships in NCFDD, one of the nation's leading faculty and graduate student focused professional development organizations. To claim your membership, you can sign up at NCFDD's website (choose the "Become a Member" link in the upper righthand corner), and you will be directed to the many free resources, including webinars, a resource library of past trainings, and affiliate discussion boards. CETL will be incorporating NCFDD materials into our Early Career offerings in the coming year.
Early Career Certificate Program 2025 Information and Registration
At the University of Connecticut, pre-tenure and CIRE faculty have access to professional development opportunities from their colleges, the Graduate School, and the Office of the Vice President for Research, among others. UConn’s Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) also provides programming designed to complement these excellent offerings.
This year, CETL is sponsoring an Early Career Certificate Program (ECCP) designed to foster a sense of community among participants across campus, while introducing them to UConn’s well-being resources, CETL’s teaching-focused workshops, and the benefits of their free membership in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).
The ECCP is open to any pre-tenure or CIRE faculty member with a start date of August 2020 or after. To earn their certificate, participants will:
- engage in three (3) joint workshops (a kickoff session; a session on supporting student well-being; and a session on faculty well-being resources); and,
- set their own pace during the fall semester by selecting (two) 2 additional virtual CETL trainings or NCFDD webinars to complete their experience.
To join, please fill out the registration survey below by Friday, September 12, 2025. Once we have a sense for cohort size, modality preferences, and date availability, we will reach out with a formal invitation that includes a finalized schedule. The goal is to offer faculty an experience that is easy to fit into their schedules, while helping them to network with their cohort.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Dr. Gwen Tarbox, CETL Director, at gwen.tarbox@uconn.edu.
