Knowing how to demonstrate the effectiveness of teaching plays a critical role in the promotion, tenure, and reappointment of faculty. Beyond this, many faculty participate in the scholarship of teaching and learning as a form of research.
Assessment of Learning
To ensure students are learning what we intend them to learn, assessment plays a critical role in education. Assessment methods are used to measure selected learning outcomes to see whether or not the objectives have been met for the course.
